KOTTAYAM: Police late on Thursday raided the house of Shibly, one of the top 10 activists of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) arrested in Indore earlier this week, in a village in this district. According to Vijayakumar, Circle Inspector, Erattupetta, who led the raid, two computers were recovered from the houses of Shibli and his brother, Shaduli. Shibli was last seen in the village two years ago. He was not even present at the marriage of his sister less than a month ago, locals said. Shaduli, along with four others, was arrested two years ago at Aluva for being involved with SIMI. Among them was Rafique, a relative. Shaduli was in jail for nearly 18 months before he was granted bail. Shibly has a computer science degree and was with a multinational in Bangalore. Their father, Abdul Kareem, is a retired teacher. Police said he was an active member of the National Development Front. The police are keeping a close watch on movements in the village, as they fear it could be a haven for militants. “Out of the five SIMI activists arrested at Aluva in 2006, three were from the village,” they said.
