Tie-breaker footballEleven senior division teams will take part in a one-day tie-breaker football tournament for the John Joseph Trophy, to be organised by the Chennai Football Association, at the Nehru Stadium on March 30. The tournament, which begins at 10 a.m. involves only penalty shoot out where all the 11 members in a team take turns to take the penalty kick. Should the scores remain level then the sudden death rule is applied where the tie is resolved when one player misses the kick. The teams taking part are ICF, SAI, Arrows, MSU, TSP, SBI, Nethaji, Customs, AGORC, Soccer and RBI. Admission for spectators is free, according to a press release. Sports quota trialsSt. Joseph’s College of Engineering will conduct trials at its campus on Old Mahabalipuram Road for sports quota admissions to the B.E., B. Tech, MBA, MCA and M.Sc courses for the year 2008-09 on April 5 and 6. Those interested should report by 8 a.m. Weightage will be given to those with achievements at National-level competitions and trials will be in the following games: basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, tennis, chess, ball badminton, badminton, athletics, hockey (men and women) and football (men).
