Market dons a uniform and much improved façade Similar façade improvement is going on in CP NEW DELHI: The newly reconstructed Janpath Road Market was inaugurated on Friday by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit who declared that all markets in the New Delhi Municipal Council area would be reconstructed in a similar fashion ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2010. The Janpath market has been given an attractive new look through a uniform and much improved facade. The façade improvement work was started in August 2007 and it took nearly six months to complete. Ms. Dikshit said the scheme for directional sign boards and street furniture for the Janpath market was under preparation. As part of the façade improvement, work has been undertaken on 75 shops in the Janpath market between the Outer Circle and Tolstoy Marg. The NDMC has improved the façade of all the shops by providing top fascia, partition walls and false ceiling, uniform sign boards on flex sheet in three different colours for consecutive shops, uniform show window in aluminium frame and 12mm glass, making pedestrian ways with pre-cast coloured concrete cement floor tiles and electric cable ducts to cope with the enhancement of electricity loads of shops without damaging the flooring and elevation. A sum of Rs.1 crore has been spent by the NDMC on these works and Rs.75 lakh has been spent under the “Bhagidari” system for replacement of temporary roofs of 31 stalls by providing iron and red sand stone roof. Similar façade improvement has also been initiated in Connaught Place to make the place more popular among visitors and tourists.
