Schemes for SC/ST welfare

BANGALORE: Identifying the need to empower the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to get tuned to the changing employment needs, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Budget that was presented to Administrator Dilip Rau on Friday has proposed to launch several new schemes for their welfare.

For the first time, a provision of Rs. 205 crore has been made in the BBMP Budget for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The new schemes that are proposed to be launched are the training programme to acquire BPO/call centre working skills, English-speaking course and capacity building training programme, training in para-medical courses like lab technician, physiotherapy, radiology etc.

The budget also seeks to improve SC/ST hostels run by the Department of Social Welfare.
