Health insurance scheme to cover 11,000 families Collector for streamlining old age pensions Sangareddy: Around 6.26 lakh white ration card families would benefit from the Rs. 2-a-kg rice scheme to be launched in the district from April 9. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday Medak district Collector Piyush Kumar said that a mandal level monitoring system would be in place by that time to restrict black-marketing of the scheme. He said that the administration would release a fixed quantity of rice sufficient for the number of families eligible for the scheme in a particular village. The Arogya Sri programme which would benefit 11,000 families would be launched on April 15. The DRDA has already completed appointing 77 Arogya Mitras to each one of the selected Primary health centres in the district and a district coordinator to coordinate the effort. While health problems of the beneficiaries have been identified earlier, another camp would be held to identify those who require special care from big hospitals, the Collector said. Sharing his experience after visiting three revenue divisions after taking over as Collector, Piyush said that there is a need to streamline the distribution of old age pensions. He pointed out that implementing authorities have to realise that the pension scheme is for the needy and not just for every one as the district already crossed the mark of 2,28,000 pensions. He said that he would also concentrate on achieving 100 per cent sanitation by encouraging panchayats to aim for Nirmal Gram purskar. An exhibition on the various options of low cost septic latrines would be organised soon for the beneficiaries.
