CHIKMAGALUR: The credit plan for Chikmagalur district for 2008-09 was presented by K. Sundar Naik, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat on Friday. The plan envisages an aggregate credit disbursement of Rs. 855.41 crore, which is 22 per cent higher than that of the previous year. Of this, credit disbursement for the priority sector is planned at Rs. 771.95 crore and Rs. 83.46 crore has been earmarked for the non-priority sector. As the district is predominantly agriculture oriented, Rs. 589.59 crore has been reserved for the agriculture sector and Rs. 153.31 crore is the planned disbursement for trade and services. Under the priority sector, Chikmagalur taluk gets the lions share with Rs. 310.03 crore followed by Mudigere taluk with Rs. 128.32 crore while the planned disbursement for N.R. Pura and Sringeri taluks is Rs. 41.4 crore each. Reviewing the progress achieved by various banks, Mr. Sundar Naik urged banks whose performance was not satisfactory to strive to achieve the target. Pointing out that not a single family of a Scheduled Castes colony in Balehonnur possessed a bank account, he said all families should be brought into the banking network in order to implement a scheme to develop 122 tanks in the district. K.P. Nanda Kumar, representative of the Reserve Bank of India, Diwakar Hegde, Assistant General Manager of NABARD, and G. Bhimsen, project director of the zilla panchayat, were present.
