Social justice meet in Kochi tomorrow

Kochi: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasir Maudany on Saturday said that a Samoohya Neethi Sangamom, a gathering of various socially and economically depressed classes for social justice, will be held here on March 31.

At a press conference here on Saturday, he said the meet would be inaugurated by former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mr. Maudany said the meet would result in a paradigm shift in the political equations in the State now. This is for the first time that such a big meet of organisations representing Dalits, tribal and other depressed people is being held in the State. The gathering will be a beginning of the efforts to get social justice for the poor and depressed classes. A special workshop will be held after the meet to decide on the future course of action.

Replying to a question, he said that as of now the meeting did not propose to launch a third front. After formulating their plan and programmes, the possibility of forming a third front would be explored. Efforts to cobble together a third front came a cropper because it was formed before formulating clear policies and programmes. In fact, the meet will lay the foundations for forming a third front in future.

Responding to another question, he said the PDP had given issue-based support to the Left Democratic Front government. Revolutionary Socialist Party (B) general secretary A.V. Thamarakshan, who was present, said that the two fronts which came to power in the State had done nothing to provide social justice to the depressed classes.
