Canara Bank launches nine retail products

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Canara Bank has launched nine new products for its retail customers. Among these are a call centre service which will provide a toll-free number at which customers can enquire about the bank’s products and services and ATM cheque deposit facility.

The bank offers a zero balance salary account for employees of medium and large-sized private and public sector companies, apart from government employees. The bank has launched a debit card for making online payments and a multi-city cheque facility.

Another new facility will enable the bank’s customers to submit home loan applications online. Canara Bank has launched a global credit card in association with Mastercard and Visa, targeting international travellers.

The bank has a gift card in four denominations.

Bank’s chairman and managing director M.B.N. Rao said the bank’s image makeover in recent months had been accompanied by several new initiatives.

The changeover from a four-tier to a three-tier structure was “meant to take the bank closer to the customer,” he said.

The bank’s technology initiative, undertaken in association with IBM and iFlex, was proceeding apace, he said.

The bank was to launch life insurance products in association with HSBC and Oriental Bank of Commerce soon, he said.

Mr. Rao said the bank had engaged Boston Consulting Company to undertake a study to enable the bank to launch “next generation services”, he said.

He said the objective was to “retain customers through a variety of delivery channels which are on par with the best anywhere in the world,” he said.
