Jurala joins State grid

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The first unit of the 234-mw Jurala hydro-electric project on the Krishna river in Mahabubnagar district joined the State grid on Saturday after successful synchronisation.

To start with, only a part of the plant capacity is being operated now. The AP Genco wants to run the unit at its full capacity after further stabilisation in a few days.

Engineers of AP Genco and CMEC, a Chinese government undertaking, which supplied and erected the main equipment to the project, heaved a sigh of relief that the plant faced no teething troubles. They had been camping at the project site to oversee the operation for a few days.

G. Adiseshu, Director (hydel), AP Genco, told The Hindu that the second unit (39 mw) of the project would be synchronised in September and the rest of the four units (39 mw each) thereafter each with a five-month interval.
