HYDERABAD: The concept of a unified Andhra Pradesh found an echo at the unveiling of a larger-than-life-sized bronze statue of Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) founder N. T. Rama Rao at the party headquarters here on Saturday. N. Harikrishna, NTR’s son who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, reminded party leaders and cadres that it was the late NTR who originally coined the term ‘Samaikya Andhra’ (United Andhra State) in 1982. Addressing a gathering in the NTR Memorial Trust Bhavan here on the occasion of the party’s 27th foundation day, he urged the cadres and leaders to be prepared for any sacrifice to throw out the Congress. Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu did not make any reference to the issue of an integrated State and wanted all party men to gear themselves to vote the Congress out of power. It was only as a part of this endeavour that the TD Legislature Party had moved the no-confidence motion on the Congress Legislature Party, he said. He recalled that the Speaker had allocated 19 hours for discussion on the motion on March 31, April 1 and 2. Mr. Naidu recalled that at a time when every political party had an ‘ism’ on its agenda, only NTR had spoken about the poor and social justice. He said only NTR could be given the credit of restoring ‘Telugu pride’.Despite India registering an impressive GDP growth and with a great deal of wealth creation, the rich were getting richer and the poor poorer. Earlier in the day, Mr. Naidu and other TDP leaders paid floral tributes at the NTR Memorial. He also inaugurated a camp where party men and women donated blood.
