Public-Private Partnership model for developing ITIs has gained good reponse Twenty-six ITIs have been adopted by industries for skill development programmes BANGALORE: The rapid economic changes that the country has seen in recent years have spurred the employment market to a great extent. At this juncture, the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) should give thrust on skill development among youth said the Adviser to the Governor P.K.H. Tharakan here on Saturday. He was inaugurating a State-level workshop for chairpersons and principals of the ITIs of Karnataka, organised by the Directorate of Employment and Training. Mr. Tharakan said, “Skill has become a singular factor for employability in the job market and the ITIs should upgrade their facilities and faculties to equip the youth with required skills to run the future industries.” The Government has given Rs. 2.5 crore for upgrading each ITI in the State and has cleared ways for the private participation in upgrading and running the ITIs. He said the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model that has been cleared for the development of ITIs has evoked good response from industries. Twenty-six ITIs in the State have been adopted by as many industries for skill development programmes. The Industry Management Committees oversee the development of the ITIs with the help of the autonomy powers given to it by the Government. “This model will surely make ITIs popular skill-learning centres for the youth,” he said. In the next fiscal, the Government will include 30 ITIs for upgradation. The ITIs will be given adequate backing by the Government to function as fully autonomous institutions capable of generating their own funds.
