BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered issue of a bailable warrant against the Commanding Officer of 115 Infantry Batallion, Territorial Army, stationed in Belgaum, for failing to appear before the court. Justice Nagmohan Das issued the warrant after the officer failed to appear before the court in a petition relating to pensionary benefits claimed by one of the retired employees of the unit. The petitioner, Evan, a resident of Belgaum, said he had served as a safaiwallah from 1979 in the Infantry unit in Belgaum. He was discharged after putting in several years of service and was given gratuity. When he asked for pension, he was told that he would have to put in 15 years to become eligible for pension. He once again sought reemployment and put in 12 more years of service and sought retirement. When he asked for pension, he was again told that his service fell short for grant of pension. He then filed a petition in the High Court. Justice Das had asked the CO to be present in court on March 27.
