Court directive on slaughter houses

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi Government to inform it by April 8 the number of mobile executive magistrate courts for prosecution of illegal slaughter houses functioning in the Capital.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice T. S. Thakur and Justice Siddharth Mridul issued the direction while hearing a public interest litigation seeking intervention of the Court to prevent killing of animals in the city.
The PIL is a result of conversion of a letter written by an animal lover to the Court into a petition enumerating illegal slaughter houses as one of the major reasons for the increase in killing of animals in the city.
Counsel for the Government said it was the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to prevent cruelty to animals here.
However, the Bench asked the Government to inform it about the issue.
