Reliance opens hypermarket in Tirupati
Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI: Reliance Retail Limited has chosen the abode of Lord Venkateswara for the launch of its first hypermarket in south India under the brand name ‘Reliance Mart’. The Mart, located at Ramanuja Circle on Renigunta Road here, is the third in the country after Ahmedabad and Jamnagar (both in Gujarat).
The 27,000 sq. ft. complex has a range of over 15,000 products catering to everyday needs of a family, ranging from fresh produce, food and grocery, homecare products, apparel and accessories, FMCG products, consumer durables and IT, automotive accessories, lifestyle products, footwear and wellness products, besides a wholesale section.
Employment
Announcing the launch of the hypermarket on Saturday, Raghu Pillai, president and chief executive of Reliance Retail (Operations & Strategy), called the organised retail industry as having potential in triggering socio-economic transformation by creating thousands of jobs on an unprecedented scale.
“The organised retail industry can do to rural poor graduates what the IT boom did to engineers”, he said, adding that his firm had thus far employed 20,000 youths in 15 months.
He further said the firm would leave its footprint in all states of the country barring Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir by December 2009.
