Sarangi kendra to come up in Bhopal
Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Government has decided to set up a “Sarangi Kendra” here with a view to promoting the art of playing this rare and popular instrument.
The announcement was made by Minister for Culture Laxmi Kant Sharma on Friday night while speaking at a function on the conclusion of the two-day Sarangi Utsav (Festival) here, an official release on Saturday said.
Madhya Pradesh is the only State where “Sarangi Utsav” is held annually.
After setting up of this Kendra, Mr. Sharma said talented students would be imparted high-level training by established Sarangi maestros at this centre.
He said the State Government has also decided to constitute a Rs 51,000 award in the memory of the late maestro Padmashri Ustad Abdul Latif Khan. PTI
