ALL FOR EDUCATION: Visitors collecting details of courses at the education fair at Padmavathi Ammal Cultural Centre in Coimbatore on Saturday. — COIMBATORE: March is the season for education fairs in Coimbatore, with young people on the lookout for courses that suit them, turning up individually and in groups at each fair. Coimbatore city itself has three ongoing exhibitions, each one offering the choicest of courses for the academically ambitious. The one organised by Educare at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam has 16 participants who include colleges, educational consultants, overseas education agencies and computer institutes from Coimbatore, Erode, Salem and Namakkal districts. The fair, which began here on March 28, received about 3,000 visitors on the very first day, Ravi Kumar.N, Managing Director, Colour Code Advertising (organiser of the fair), says. Every evening the organisers of the fair conduct seminars on various topics and certificates are given to all those who attend them, he adds. The fair targets students from Plus Two to the post graduate level who are looking at opportunities for higher education in the country and abroad as well. Career consulting firms also provide counselling to the visitors on their career options. Most of the institutes offering computer and animation courses have come up with interesting summer packages for students. Many of them are offering up to 50 per cent scholarships to those who are visiting the exhibition. Apart from the usual fare, a stall put up by an engineering college has displayed an impressive collection of question banks for BE in various streams with the solutions. The books are sold at a discount of 10 per cent and this draws people looking for a bargain as well as knowledge on various subjects. The career and educational fair on at Padmavathy Ammal Cultural Centre is exhaustive. Organised by Indus Fairs and Events, it has about 40 participants from within the country and abroad. The profiles of the participants form an impressive list. They range from self-financing institutes to medical universities, foreign universities, IT Enabled Services, Human Resource Departments, Overseas Recruitment agencies, and placement and immigration consultants. The organisers expect about 20,000 visitors this year. This is the 11th consecutive year the fair is being held in Coimbatore. Students can also look at one-one career counselling from experts, and undergo psychometric analysis here. Job melaThe job mela along with the fair is an added attraction. It is conducted in collaboration with the District Employment Exchange and Overseas Manpower Corporation, a Government organisation that recruits people for Government jobs in various fields in India and abroad. “This year, we have a new participant in Overseas Manpower Corporation,” says S.Thiagarajan, Director of Indus Fairs and Events. “They have about 1,000 job vacancies all over the world,” he adds. Both the exhibitions are on till March 30. Entry is fee and they are open from 10.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
