JAIPUR: Gram Sevaks in Rajasthan have withdrawn their pen-down agitation after an assurance by the State Government to look into their demands sympathetically. They will get leave sanctioned for the period of agitation, which started on March 8. Rajasthan Gram Sevak Sangh president Tarachand Gujjar and other functionaries were told at a meeting with the State Government’s representatives here over the weekend that the demands for pay increase, promotions and regular pay scales would be considered with a view to removing hardships. Final decisionPublic Works Department Minister Rajendra Rathore said here on Saturday that Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje would take a final decision on giving the first selection pay scale of Panchayat Extension Officers to Gram Sevaks, while the regular pay scale would be given to those getting a fixed monthly remuneration. All Gram Sevaks working on deputation in the State Boards and Corporations will be absorbed in the Panchayati Raj Department on fulfilling the condition of minimum educational qualification. Mr. Rathore assured that none of them would be retrenched. The Gram Sevak Sangh was also assured that the steps would be taken at the administrative level to remove anomalies in the salary structures of the cadres equivalent to Gram Sevaks. A hard duty allowance is proposed to be introduced for them shortly. Mr. Rathore said the State Government would initiate action on the agreed terms within a month.
