Vessel sinks, six crew members escape

Kozhikode: Six crew members of a cargo ship escaped after the vessel bound for Lakshadweep sank off the Beypore port late on Friday night, Coast Guard sources said on Saturday. The sailors reached the Tanur beach in Malappuram district on Saturday morning. The vessel, MSV Sandheri, carrying cement had set off from Beypore on Friday. It developed some technical snags in mid-sea, the sources said. The crew members boarded a lifeboat and were heading for shore by the time the Coast Guard team traced the sinking vessel, the sources said. — PTI
