BERHAMPUR: The agitating lawyers of Ganjam Bar Association started their three-day-long economic blockade of State and Central government agencies in the city from Saturday. The lawyers are on strike since December 4, demanding establishment of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court in the city for the benefit of the citizens of south Orissa. All courts in the city, including the district judge court for Ganjam and Gajapati districts, also remained closed for over 115 days due to the lawyers’ strike. President of the Ganjam Bar Association S.N.Rath said they had to take the decision for economic blockade as the government was not taking genuine pro-people demand of the agitating lawyers seriously. According to Mr Rath they have decided to target only those offices which generate revenue for the state government. The bar associations of Digaphandi and Khallikote also expressed their solidarity to the agitation of the Ganjam bar association by not allowing any revenue related work happen at their local tehsil offices. The lawyers picketed in front of these tehsil offices in the morning.
