BHUBANESWAR: The retrenched employees of the State-owned Kalinga Studios have threatened to intensify their stir if their ‘genuine’ demands are not met by Monday. The employees who are on a ‘dharana’ in front of the State Assembly here under the banner of Kalinga Studios Employees Union to highlight their plight are demanding immediate reopening of studios. They are also demanding that the retrenched staff be reinstated and paid their pending dues for the past 18 months besides bonus for three years. The union has alleged that the Government has taken an arbitrary decision in closing down the studios and retrenching the employees without considering their future. Meanwhile several film fora have extended their support to Kalinga Studios’ employees. Eminent actor and Orissa Cine Artistes’ Association advisor Uttam Mohanty and Orissa Motion Pictures Technicians’ and Workers’ Association president Bighneswar Swain joined the delegation of the union that met Industries Minister B.B. Harichandan on Friday. The delegation urged the Minister to look into the matter without further delay to save the future of the Studios and the employees’ families from hardship. The union threatened to resort to ‘extreme steps’ if their demands are not met by Monday.
