HYDERABAD: It was day to cherish the achievements of its past ‘greats’ and take some ‘worldly advice’ from the industry gurus. The annual day celebrations of Nizam College on Saturday presented an opportunity to students to value both these facets. While Managing Director of Vimta Labs Sivalinga Prasad Vasireddy asked the students to stay focussed and specialise at least in one subject, two former students, who made it big in life in different fields, asked the students to strike a balance between education and recreation. “Today’s generation is lucky because they can learn anything at the a click of the ‘mouse’. Please utilise this opportunity to the hilt. Learn science carefully. Technology can be adopted but science can’t,” Mr. Vasireddy told the students. Keki Dadabhoy, Noshir Jalnawala, a 1954 graduate and a reputed boxer who represented the State in the Olympic trials for boxing at Kolkata in 1952 and a former IPS officer and a batchmate of Director Shyam Benegal, were felicitated. Keki Dadabhoy told the students that striking a balance between education and recreation activities is vital. “We used to spend a lot of time at Nizam’s grounds playing cricket, football and other such games. However, we knew where to draw the line and start delivering academic results,” he said. PrizesPrizes were given away to the winners of various sports competitions held by the college during the academic year 2007-08 by noted athlete T. Lavanya Reddy, who was the guest of honour. The Nizam’s has regained the overall championship in the inter-collegiate tournaments of Osmania University by winning gold medals in men’s football and judo.
