THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The All Kerala Blood Donors Society is organising a blood donation camp here on April 7 as part of the programmes in connection with World Health Day. The event, aimed at promoting the concept of voluntary blood donation among the public, will be supported by Terumo Penpol, Club 25, Kerala State Sports Council and State Bank of Travancore. It will be held at the Central Stadium here from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pannian Ravindran, MP, will be the chief guest. Managing Director of Terumo Penpol C. Balagopal will preside over the function and Additional DGP Jacob Punnose will deliver the keynote address. City Police Commissioner Ravada Chandrasekhar will be the first blood donor Politicians, celebrities and sportspersons are expected to attend the camp. Posters and leaflets on blood donation will be distributed to the public, in the run up to the event. Street showsClub 25 is also organising street shows about blood donation at important junctions in the city. A media campaign on blood donation is another proposed activity. Specially designed kiosks will be set up at various locations. The blood banks at the Medical College Hospital, Regional Cancer Centre and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences will collect blood from donors at the camp. The organisers are expecting at least 200 donors to turn up for the camp.
