1,980 petitions received at Janata Darshan today 14,876 petitions received in the last 17 Janata Darshans
Expecting help: Krishnappa, a daily wage worker from Chickballapur district who has injured his spine, being brought to the Janata Darshan by his wife Jayamma, in Bangalore on Saturday. BANGALORE: Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Saturday handed over Rs. 15.93 lakh to hospitals towards the “Hrudaya Spandana” scheme, at the Janata Darshan here. The cheques were given away to hospitals that operated on heart patients. A total of 1,980 petitions were received by the Governor, of which 419 were for medical relief fund, followed by 348 petitions from deputy commissioners and 166 from CEOs of zilla panchayats. The other petitions were from departments, authorities and corporations. According to official sources, the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology operated on 236 patients while the Narayana Hrudayalaya handled 61 cases since the Hrudaya Spandana programme was launched in October last. The Government had released Rs. 37.49 lakh for 153 cardiac surgeries, the sources added. Three other charitable trusts contributed an equal share to the Hrudaya Spandana programme. The sources said the Governor’s office received 14,876 petitions totally in the last 17 Janata Darshans, of which 6,515 cases came under the general medical relief category. The Janata Darshan witnessed some heart-rending scenes. A woman walked in carrying her three-year-old son Kiran Rao, who had a supportive structure around his neck. She said that Kiran was born without a collar bone and his head had to be supported by this structure. She said, with tears rolling down her cheeks, that the family had spent lakhs of rupees on treatment, but the problem was yet to be overcome. A majority of the cases represented at the Janata Darshan related to medical problems, geriatrics and children’s problems. P.K.H. Tharakan and P.P. Prabhu, advisers to the Governor, were present.
