Tibetan agitation

The recent Tibetan agitation in Tibet which is under control of China is unfortunate and regrettable.

The Tibetans are a peace-loving people and now residing in different countries in asylum. They have been struggling for independence for Tibet.

The Dalia Lama is also residing in Indian in Himachal Pradesh. The Chinese government should consider sympathetically their demands and free Tibet from its control. This is the era of independence and everybody wants to live peacefully. On its part, China is prospering rapidly.

This is to right time to the Chinese people to show their kindness and free Tibet.

Sad state of affairs

Speaker Maheswar Mohanty is facing sexual harassment charge. It is an unfortunate episode in legislative history of the State. Rumours involving another Minister in the episode are rife. This has made the matter more complicated.

The Opposition parties are all set to take advantage from the muddled water. On the other hand, the ruling alliance would try hard to divert attention people from the issue.

Given the way the legislators have been conducting themselves in the House, even children are cracking jokes at the MLAs after going through live coverage on TV. It is high time a strict disciplinary mechanism was put in place for our people’s representatives.

Pension payment

The pensioners of Berhampur want a special counter for themselves for disbursement of pension amounts. During the first week of the month heavy rush to withdraw money occurs at the special treasury and the main branch of the SBI in the city. The distance between the special treasury and the and SBI main branch is over 3 km. The aged pensioners find it hard to travel between the traesury and the bank to collect their pension. We therefore request the authorities to open a branch of the SBI near the special treasury. It would benefit pensioners as well as inhabitants of that area of the city.

Act fast

The recent rape and murder incident in Goa should be an eye opener for Puri district administration which supervise another beautiful beach of the country. There have been stray cases of eve-teasing and molestation on the beach of Puri. Many of these, however, go unreported.

The police should show urgency in tracking anti-socials mingling with tourists. Several foreign nationals have been manhandled in Konark, Bhubaneswar as well as in Puri.
