Bhubaneswar: A day after a case of sexual abuse was registered against Orissa Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday said lawful steps would be taken, but parried queries on the possibility of the presiding officer’s resignation. “We have always stood for proper and lawful action. Whatever is lawful will be done,” he told reporters on his return from New Delhi while responding to queries about the criminal case registered against Mr. Mohanty following an FIR lodged by a lady assistant marshal of the Assembly. Stating that the case was registered on the basis of the FIR lodged with the Mahila police station, Mr. Patnaik said he had suggested a probe by a House Committee into the charges. “But the opposition members did not cooperate,” he said.
