New Delhi
Several tall eucalyptus trees on the main C-1 Marg near the District Park in the Capital’s Janakpuri area are dangerously leaning over the road, virtually caressing the power transmission lines. There was a massive drive for felling of such trees in the area recently. It seems the trees that managed to survive are a terrified lot and have lost their sense of balance. They could come crashing down any time snapping the power lines along with them. With very heavy traffic on this arterial road, this is a disaster waiting to happen. I request the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to act and avert this disaster. G. Venkataraman, C2B / 82B, Janakpuri, New Delhi – 110 058. Where’s the money?I had invested in Tax Saving Bonds of ICICI -- 022003-TSB-Two -- on April 3, 2003. In all, there were four bonds with the issue price of Rs.5,000 each. The redemption date of the bonds was August 3, 2006. In the bonds application I had mentioned the name of my bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, located on the premises of my college (Mata Sundri) and my savings a/c No. 26608. The redemption amount of Rs.20,000 along with the interest was supposed to be deposited by ICICI in this account on the above-mentioned date. However, when I approached the Punjab & Sind Bank branch upon returning from the US last November, I was surprised to learn that the redemption amount was neither recorded in my pass book nor was it showing in my total balance. Since then I have been making the rounds of my bank trying to track the money. I have also addressed my complaint, in writing, to the Ombudsman of Punjab & Sind Bank but have received no reply. I look forward to some concrete action now. Satinder Kapur, (Former Reader, Faculty of English Literature, Mata Sundri College,) K(U)-6, Pitampura, New Delhi-110 088. Hello, Vodafone….I am a software engineer with Wipro Technologies, Bangalore. I have a Vodafone post-paid mobile phone connection (98867-80579) and have some doubts regarding the bills I got for December 2007, January 2008 and February 2008. During the past three months I have requested Vodafone several times for detailed bills to be sent to my e-mail address. Every time I was informed that I would be getting them within 24 hours, but I have not received any of them so far. Instead, they have now started calling me for payment reminders 10-15 days before the due date of payment. I get more than 10 calls per day which is very annoying. Vodafone must stop this. Maruti Nandan Prasad, 204, Mahaveer Konark Apartments, 15th Main, 3rd Cross, Vinayaka Nagar, J. P. Nagar 5th Phase, Bangalore - 78. Mobile menaceI bought a Nokia 8800 some time ago and have been suffering to this day. Since the day of purchase, the phone has been freezing frequently and has to be re-started every time. Its craftsmanship is faulty. Whenever the camera is used, the phone freezes; quite often it does not allow me to make calls. To top it all, it does random things on its own from time to time! Nokia has tried repairing the handset several times but all the problems still persist. Numerous phone calls and e-mails to Nokia officials have not borne any positive result. Surely a company like Nokia should be making phones that work? Priya Desh Gupta, C-12, Friends Colony (East), New Delhi – 110 065. Trump card?I have been using MTNL’s Trump pre-paid service for several years now and it has been quite a satisfying experience. Recently, however, several subscribers have started complaining of jammed networks all day and difficulties in getting through to other MTNL numbers. Even registering a complaint has become tedious. It takes at least half an hour to get through to a Customer Care executive, and even then there is no surety that the complaint will be looked into. Because of these factors, private players are flourishing in the market. The MTNL authorities must act fast to improve service. Bustani, 23/2 Bhajanpura, New Delhi – 110 056.
