250 bags of PDS rice seized

Krishnagiri: The food cell police seized 250 bags of rice worth Rs. 1.50 lakh meant for supply under the public distribution system, which was being smuggled in a lorry here on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team was conducting vehicle checks at the Salem by-pass when they intercepted a lorry and seized the rice bags.
Arrested
Lorry drivers Kamaraj (40) and Maanickam (34) of Krishnagiri were arrested.
The lorry was going from Villupuram to Bangarapet for sale and subsequent polishing of the rice in the open market.
In another incident, a police team seized 70 bags of rice worth Rs.70,000, which was being smuggled in a lorry at the Thiruvunnamalai by-pass near here.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
