Rs. 1,191 cr. for priority sector

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The annual credit plan for the year 2008-09 envisages Rs. 1,191.53 crore of allocation for priority sector, around Rs. 91 crore more than that of the previous year.
In a statement, the Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, said that the agriculture and farm-related sector has been allotted Rs. 425.47 crore, while non-farm sector has been provided an allocation of Rs. 521.66 crore. Service sector has got Rs. 244.40 crore.
Direct loan through all banks for self help groups for women has been pegged at Rs. 36.43 crore.
Exceeding its target of Rs. 1100.63 crore credit plan for the year 2007-08, the banks had given credits to the tune of Rs. 1,387.76 crore till December 2007, the Collector said. The deposits with the banks in the districts till December 31, 2007, were Rs. 3,026 crore as against its advances of Rs. 4,570.59 crore, including Rs. 2,024 crore credit for priority sector, the Collector said.
Revolving fund to the tune of Rs. 78.50 lakhs was given to 314 SHGs under the Golden Jubilee Rural Employment Scheme and Rs. 42.50 lakh of revolving fund subsidy given to 423 groups during last year.
A total of 20,313 credit cards were issued to farmers through which they got Rs. 5,931.03 lakh loan.
