The fee for general category is Rs. 10,000 Party stand on unemployment dole reiterated

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has asked the District Congress Committees (DCCs) to receive applications from candidates seeking to contest the Assembly elections in the State. Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge said that AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Prithviraj Chavan had convened a meeting of all the four committees constituted by AICC, including the Campaign Committee, and discussed strategies to be adopted to prepare the party for the elections. Mr. Kharge said that at the meeting it was decided to authorise all DCCs to receive applications from the aspiring candidates and submit them to the KPCC by April 4. The KPCC would scrutinise the applications and put it before the party’s screening committee to shortlist the nominees. Final listThe final list would be submitted to the party high command for its clearance, after the announcement of calendar of events for Assembly elections, he said. The KPCC chief said aspiring candidates’ belonging to the general category had to submit their applications with a fee of Rs. 10,000, while it was Rs. 5,000 for women, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe aspirants. All of them had to pay application fee through demand drafts. Factors, including winnability, would be taken into consideration while finalising the list, the KPCC president said. To a question, Mr. Kharge said that the Congress was committed to dole out allowance to unemployed graduates if the party came to power.
