Fire cracker goes off on railway track

Staff Reporter

TIRUPATTUR: A fire cracker exploded on the railway track near Kunichi on Sunday while a train engine was on its way to Jolarpet from Salem.

Mr. Sarangan, SP, Railway Police, said the explosion occurred around 7.10 a.m. when the engine neared Kunichi. Sensing trouble, the engine driver alerted the Station Manger of the Tirupattur Railway Station. The ‘Q’ Branch police, Railway Police and Railway officials immediately reached the spot.

He said the fire cracker would have been thrown into the track by some people who had come to attend a festival at a temple adjoining the track.

Even though it was an unintentional incident, a case had been registered and transferred to the Kandili Police Station for investigation, Mr. Sarangan said.
