Transfusion training held

THANJAVUR: About 50 nurses from private hospitals here underwent training in blood donation and transfusion at a programme organised jointly by the district Indian Red Cross Society and Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society on Sunday.

According to their office-bearers, G. Rajamahendran and K. Mohammed Ali, the nurses needed training in handling blood, what they should do before transfusion and action to be taken in suspected transfusion reaction.

There was a procedure to be followed before transfusion, Mr. Mohammed Ali said. There were steroids that should not be given. Blood bag and lot numbers, patient name, blood group and cross-matching should be notified by the transfusionist etc.
