Two arrested with sickles during vehicle check

Suspected to be involved in eight murder cases

TIRUNELVELI: The Munneerpallam police here have arrested a history-sheeter and his associate, who are allegedly involved in more than eight murder cases, including the murder of rowdy Lingam inside the Nagercoil prison in April 1996.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday evening, the Superintendent of Police, R. Dhinakaran, said P. Senthil alias ‘Thaaththaa’ Senthil (49) of Usaravilai in Kanyakumari district and his associate R. Sahaya Gerald Valan (34) of Maravankudiyiruppu, also from Kanyakumari district, were held with two sickles when the police intercepted the car in which they were travelling during a vehicle check at Piraancherry under Munneerpallam police station limits on Sunday.
Murder of rowdy
During interrogation, the police came to know that the duo were involved in more than eight murder cases, including the murder of Kanyakumari-based rowdy Lingam inside the prison and Devendrakula Vellalar Youth Peravai founder Pasupathi Pandian’s wife, Jacinta, and some more attempt to murder cases.
“Senthil, who went underground 15 years ago, moved to Chennai, where he established his base with the assistance of some more anti-socials,” Dr. Dhinakaran said.
Further investigations are on.
