Rs.5.82 crore sought for repair work in Kanyakumari district

Nagercoil: Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed various parts of the district on Sunday. The sky remained overcast through out the day.
The level in the Pechipparai dam stood at 32.35 feet against its total capacity of 48 feet, 46.50 feet in Perunchani against its total capacity of 77 feet, 4.85 feet in Chittar I against its total capacity of 18 feet, 4.95 feet in Chittar II against its total capacity of 18 feet, 15 feet in Mukkadal dam against its total capacity of 15 feet and 7.30 feet in Pogai dam against its total capacity of 46 feet.
In the meantime, the district administration has sought funds from the Government to the tune of Rs.5.82 crore to repair the rain-affected roads, public buildings, schools and water bodies.
According to official sources, roads to a distance of 179 km, including 50 km of highways roads, public buildings, schools and 58 water bodies have to be renovated.
Rs.3.11-crore proposal
The district administration has also sent a Rs.3.11-crore proposal for relaying the damaged roadslocated in Padmanabhapuram, Kuzuthurai and Colachel municipalities.
The Public Works Department has also sought Rs.1.71 crore to renovate 59 prime water bodies such as system tanks and ponds and to strengthen tank bunds to prevent breaches during the rainy seasons.
