BANGALORE: Karnataka retained the Paralympic National volleyball championship outclassing Haryana 25-14, 25-12 at the Sree Kanteerava stadium courts here on Sunday. Praveen Kumar, voted ‘best all-round player’ of the championship, spiked well while Jayaram, Anthonappa and captain Parthiban played their part to perfection. For Haryana Sanjay Kumar smashed effectively but was inconsistent while 60-year-old Nandlal served impressively. Earlier, Tamil Nadu came from behind to defeat Orissa and claim the third place in three sets at 21-25, 25-13, 15-9. Sharp showers midway through the second set sent the players scurrying for cover and even changed the course of the game in TN’s favour. R. Rathan Singh, president Paralympic Committee of India, gave away the prizes. Meanwhile, 12 players were shortlisted to attend a 15-day coaching camp to select the Indian Paralympic volleyball team for the World Championships to be held at Egypt from April 25. The camp will be held in Bangalore from April 7 to 21. The team will leave for Egypt on April 22. The results: Final: Karnataka bt Haryana 25-14, 25-12. For third place: TN bt Orissa 21-25, 25-13, 15-9. Semifinals: Karnataka bt TN 25-23, 25-12; Haryana bt Orissa 25-11, 26-24. The shortlisted players: Nutan (Gujarat); Rajnikanth, Hari (both TN); Nagaraj (AP); Karunakar, Besraj Naik (both Orissa); Sanjay Kumar and Anand Paul (Haryana); Vijay Kumar, Ravishankar Choudhary (both Delhi); Praveen Kumar M.V. and Jayaram (both Karnataka). — Special Correspondent
