NEW DELHI: In yet another case of drunken driving, a 30-year-old businessman rammed his BMW car into a broken down truck, badly injuring its driver and two helpers near Safdarjung Hospital in the early hours of Sunday. While the car driver has been arrested, the condition of one of the victims is stated to be serious. According to the police, the accident took place around 3-45 a.m. when the BMW hit the cement-laden truck from behind on Ring Road. The truck driver, Suresh, and his two helpers, Vinod and Naresh, who were changing a flat tyre, sustained injuries and were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital. The police said Vinod was critical, while the other two were kept under observation. The BMW car driver, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, identified himself as Gurmeet Singh (30), a resident of Shanti Niketan. The police have registered a case of causing injury due to rash and negligent driving and arrested him. “The medical examination confirmed that he was in a drunken state,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi) Shalini Singh. Gurmeet claimed that he was the grandson of a former Punjab Chief Minister.
