Daily direct flights to Mumbai, Delhi; three new flights to the Gulf

Mayor inaugurates flight to Delhi

Mumbai flight will help Europe-bound passengers

Nedumbassery: Two daily direct flights, one each to Mumbai and Delhi and an addition of three new flights in the international operations under the no-frills category are the highlights of Air India’s six-month summer schedule from Cochin Airport, which came into effect on Sunday.

The Air India officials also announced a de-linking of the Cochin airport from the Calicut airport in terms of the services to Sharjah by May 15 with the introduction of separate flights from both the airports to the same destination.

Earlier in the day, Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams inaugurated the launching of the daily flight to Delhi in a ceremony also attended by Sebastian Paul, M.P. and Air India’s officials at 7 a.m. The officials said that the aircraft to Delhi (IC 446), a full service carrier with a capacity of 145 seats, would help the passengers to take connection flights to Jaipur, Kulu, Chandigarh and Kathmandu. The flight is scheduled to depart from here at 7.30 a.m. to reach Delhi at 10.30 a.m. In the return leg, it will leave Delhi at 5.30 p.m. and reach here at 8.30 p.m.

The daily direct flight to Mumbai (IC 162) with a capacity of 145 seats, which was also on the tarmac at 9.40 p.m. on the commencing day of the summer schedule, would enable the Europe-bound passengers to catch the recently introduced Mumbai-New York non-stop flight.

In the international operations, three new services, one to Dubai and two to Doha under the no-frills category are the additions made to the existing fleet of 38 services a week.
