Check migration

Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts have been deprived of industrialisation. Educated and intelligentsia are migrating to other parts of the country and abroad. The Government and private industrialists should set up large scale industries in the two districts where all facilities are available to stop migration to some extent.

Plight of taxpayers

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, at frequent intervals, forwards demand notice to tax payers with respect to payment of house-tax. Accordingly, house owners pay the tax at eSeva centres. Unfortunately, this time I noticed at Butchirajupalem eSeva centre, the figures did not tally with the ones in the demand notices resulting in arguments between computer operators and consumers. The staff are unwilling to accept the amount and direct the tax payers to get corrected at GVMC. One can imagine the plight of the tax payers. The residents were not informed about the hike in water charges from Rs.60 to Rs.80 a month which also caused some confusion. The corporators should question any increase, discuss it at the appropriate forum and inform the public through media.

Regularisation of sites

The Revenue authorities notified for regularisation of encroachments in certain survey numbers in Gajuwaka. The term encroachment is ambiguous. The issue is pending of the last 60 years as it comes under Inam abolition.

This is advertised only in local papers. The sale of forms is closed within 15 days – from March 5 to 20 in the wink of an eye. Later, the time for receipt of the applications is extended by 15 days without giving extension to the sale of the forms in eSeva centers. Consequently, many landholders residing outside Visakhapatnam and the State could not apply due to paucity of time and sale of applications took up only in four eSeva centers of Gajuwaka.

In Gajuwaka, there are landgrabbings by rowdy elements and sale of land by fake pattas while the genuine buyers with pucca sale deeds are forced to fight long legal battles in courts. Besides, there are discrepancies in survey numbers and pattas and the entire exercise is carried out in haste.

Therefore, it will be in the interest of the public that the sale and receipt of application forms is extended by another month with wide publicity to enable more landholders apply. The Government will also be benefited by the sale and regularization.
