Bangalore: A large number of folk artistes and theatre persons from rural areas of the State gathered at the Samsa open air theatre here on Sunday to felicitate their colleague Srinivas G. Kappanna, who created opportunities for them to exhibit their talent on various platforms in his capacity as the chairperson of the Karnataka Nataka Academy. The occasion they chose was his 60th birthday and completion of his term as academy chairperson. Speaking on the occasion, a former judge of the Karnataka High Court, A.J. Sadashiva, said Kappanna’s work received appreciation due to his involvement and love for theatre and culture. Principal Secretary for Tourism, Information, Kannada and Culture I.M. Vittal Murthy said that Kappanna’s ability in organising cultural programmes was of great help to the Kannada and Culture Department for many years. Replying to the felicitation, Mr. Kappanna said that members of Nepathya, a theatre group with which he has been associated for many years, were responsible for his success. Litterateur Girish Karnad, K Marulasiddappa, Siddalingaiah were among others present.
