Lachman Das dead

Chennai: A former secretary of the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists Association Lachman Das Kapoor passed away here late on Saturday night. He was ailing for sometime. He was 75 and leaves behind his wife and five children. ‘LD Kapoor’ had worked as sub-editor/ reporter with The Mail and thereafter with The Indian Express.

Sujit wins title

M. Sujit Kumar of Trimble and Sivaranjini Balasubramaniam of WIPRO won the men’s and women’s singles titles on Sunday in the inter-corporate table tennis tournament organised by the SDAT-Chandra Academy.

G.S. Subramanian, Deputy General Manager, SBI presided over the final day’s programme.

The results (finals): men: singles: M. Sujit Kumar (Trimble) bt Sharath Sankar (Cognizant) 11-9, 4-11, 11-4, 11-6; doubles: Sharath Sankar and Kanagaraj (Cognizant) bt Md Imran and Shreyas 11-1, 11-8, 11-7; team event: WIPRO ‘A’ bt Cognizant ‘B’ 3-0 (Imran Dawood bt Manoj Mohan 11-7, 11-13, 11-7, 11-7; Manikandan bt Santhosh 11-9, 11-5, 11-9; Imran and Manikandan bt Manoj and Santthosh 11-8, 11-4, 4-11, 11-2). W omen: singles: Sivaranjini Balasubramaniam (WIPRO) bt G. Vidya Bharath (Cognizant) 11-7, 6-11, 9-11, 11-3, 12-10.

Sakthikamal shines

Sakthikamal’s unbeaten century (100) was the highlight of College of Engineering’s 70-run win over Md. Sathak Engineering College in a quarterfinal match of the state-level inter-engineering colleges cricket tournament, being organised by SSN College of Engineering.

The scores (quarterfinals): College of Engineering, Guindy 159 for six in 20 overs (Sakthikamal 100 n.o.) bt Md. Sathak 89 in 17.2 overs (Elamparithy three for 12).

KCG College of Technology 78 in 18.3 overs (S. Dinesh three for 12, Lakshminarayanan three for 8) lost to Hindustan 79 for one in 13.1 overs (Shalin 27 n.o., Praveen 27 n.o.).
