Unprecedented decision
The Assembly took an unprecedented decision to order a judicial inquiry into the assets of all those who served as Ministers since 1978 and the 294 members who got elected to the present House in 2004.
The House unanimously decided to adopt a resolution when it meets on Tuesday and forward the same to the High Court to spare sitting judges for the purpose.
The demand for the inquiry into assets of members of the current Assembly was initially made by Telugu Desam member V. Narendar Reddy while speaking on the no confidence motion.
This snowballed into a wider debate with Housing Minister Botcha Satyanarayana, who targeted Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, proposing that the inquiry should cover the entire political career of the sitting members. Accepting the challenge, T. Devender Goud (TDP) sought a cut-off time for the probe and the Chief Minister responded by saying that the year could be 1978 when Mr. Naidu and he entered the Assembly for the first time.
