‘EUPHORIA-08’, the annual day of the Yagappa Matriculation School, Thanjavur, was held recently. S. Sudhakar was the chief guest and Mrs. Usharani Sudhakar distributed the prizes. The day was also celebrated as Parents’ Day and Saraswathi Kalyana Sundaram provided the feedback. The coordinator of the school Francis Arul also spoke. CompetitionThe management of Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Nagapattinam organised a competition for the students in making sculpture in sand in the school grounds on Saturday. As many as 171 students from Standard V to X took part in the competition by forming 20 groups. The students made several images of various sizes. One of the groups made the image of Goddess Parvati by spending about seven hours from morning till evening and won the appreciation of one and all. The school organised the competition for the students to motivate their talents in various fields. Judo contestThe students of Bharani Park Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karur, performed exceedingly well at the State-level judo competition. In the boys’ under-19 section, P. Prabhakaran won silver in 60-65kg weight category, while P. Rajkumar (65-71kg) and M. Viswanathan (71-80 kg) bagged a bronze each. In the girls’ under-14 section, S. Solai secured a bronze medal in the 45-50kg weight category. Principal C. Ramasubramanian, managing trustee S. Mohanarangan, physical education teachers Durai, Vinoth and Latha commended the students. Students selectedThe students of the Aditya Birla Public School (ABPS), Ariyalur and Dharani Matriculation School (DMS), Ariyalur, have been selected for the State-level karate competition after having performed well at the district-level Allan Thilak contest . The joint executive president, Grasim Industries Limited, south fivision, S. Natarajan, and General Manager (HR), J. Settu, ABPS Principal G.G. Menon and DMS Principal B. Vijayalakshmi commended the students. Parents’ day outTo enable the parents of Kindergarten students to see for themselves the day-to-day functioning of the classes and the progress of their children, Ukkadai A.Viswanatha Thevar Matriculation School at Ammapet in Thanjavur district introduced a programme called “Parents with their kids for a day in the school.” Correspondent of the school Ukkadai Sriman V. Rajendra Kumar Thevar inaugurated the programme recently. witnessed the learning process and teaching methods of the school. Parents appreciated the multimedia educational programme. Similar exercise will be held for higher students also, the Principal of the school said. Life skill programmeLife-skill programme for students belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe was conducted under the aegis of ‘Sarva Siksha Abhiyan’ (SSA) at the West Panchayat Union Primary School near Ariyalur recently. The Chief Educational Officer, SSA, Ranjini Devi, who inaugurated the programme, spoke on the objective of the scheme. Training on in basic skills such as filling in the money order forms, the railway reservation booking slips and the deposit and withdrawal forms at banks was imparted to the students. A total of 720 students belonging to SC/ST community have undergone the training, in batches, this year. School commendedThe Gurumoorthy Middle School near Mayiladuturai in Nagapattinam district celebrated its 48th annual day celebration recently. School correspondent T. S. Thiyagarajan who presided over the function explained the growth of the institution from its inception. R. Raghupathy, Assistant Educational Officer and several dignitaries were honoured. The educational authorities commended the school for effectively incorporating the new education scheme of ABL (activity-based learning) and ALM (active-learning methodology). S. Rajakumar, MLA of Mayiladuturai, V. Malathi, Headmistress of the school and others spoke. School students performed cultural programmes. Contributed by G. Srinivasan in Thanjavur, K.
