During the last few years of his life, the architect created collages in the shape of mangoes using bits of paper and cloth. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Alliance Francaise in association with the embassy of France in India will organise an exhibition of collages — Laurie Baker’s Mango Mania — from April 1 to 14 on the Alliance premises at the Forest Office Lane. The exhibition will be inaugurated at 4 p.m. on April 1 and will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Laurie Baker abhorred any sort of waste and recycled every conceivable material in his works. During the last few years of his life, he created collages in the shape of mangoes using magazine pages, bits of newspapers and cloth. As with his houses, Baker never repeated a ‘mango’ design, a press note issued here said. This body of work — fondly named ‘mango mania’ by Mrs. Baker — is what would be on display at the Alliance, the press note added.
