A Correspondent

Idukki: Rajamala in Eravikulam National Park, which has remained closed for two months in view of the breeding season of the Nilgiri tahr (hemitragus hylocrius) will be reopened for tourists on Tuesday.

Wildlife Warden Roy P. Mathew said that nearly 70 Nilgiri tahr calves were born this season. A heavy rush of tourists is expected this season, he said and added that on an average, 1,000 tourists visited Rajamala per day during the last tourist season.

The sanctuary was closed on February 2 and an eco-shop was recently inaugurated by Forest Minister Benoy Viswom.
