ALAPPUZHA: An Agro Service Centre will begin functioning at the Rice Research Centre (RRC), Mankombu, from Tuesday. The service centre, which will have modern equipment and experts to counsel farmers on cultivation methods and to handle any crisis, will function under the aegis of the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) and the Departments of Revenue and Agriculture of the State Government, KAU Vice-Chancellor K. R. Viswambharan said here on Monday. Addressing a meeting at the Collectorate to review the farming crisis in Kuttanad, Mr. Viswambharan said the issues related to the delayed harvest in Kuttanad would be sorted out with the help of the service centre. A Deputy Collector appointed by the District Collector would be in charge of the service centre, which could be contacted over the telephone number 0477-2702245. District Collector V. K. Balakrishnan, RRC director Abraham Varghese, scientists K.C. Raju, T. Mathew and others were present.
