A SLEW OF DEMANDS: Members of the Puducherry Auxiliary Midwife Welfare Association staging a demonstration in Puducherry on Monday. PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Auxiliary Nursing Midwife (ANM) Welfare Association staged a demonstration on Monday demanding increase in pay scale and reduction of workload. The association said the Sixth Pay Commission had recommended a pay scale at a par with the employees of Group ‘D’ for the ANMs. “We are technically qualified and so our pay scale cannot be matched with the Group ‘D’ employees,” president of the association S. Efsyjayamani said. With the recruitment rules remaining the same for the last 28 years, the association demanded that it should be changed. Other demandsConfirmation orders for ANMs, Assured Career Progression for Lady Health Workers (LHW), increase of field tour allowance for ANMs and filling the vacant posts of ANMs were the other demands of the association. There are around 126 ANMs and 13 LHWs in Puducherry. The association members would blindfold themselves and go on a rally on April 7.
