KCAET students take part as part of curriculum Farmers draw the map of Vettom panchayat MALAPPURAM: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Malappuram, functioning on the Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering Technology (KCAET) campus at Tavanur held a participatory rural appraisal (PRA) programme in Vettom panchayat on Sunday. The PRA ensures participation of farmers of a particular area in the identification and proper utilisation of its resources. The students of KCAET took part in the programme as part of their course curriculum. Vettom grama panchayat president K. Mehrunnisa inaugurated the programme. P.V. Habeeb Rahman, head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, spoke about the programme. The farmers who took part in the programme drew the map of Vettom panchayat on the sand and demarcated the 19 wards of the panchayat with different colours. After identifying important roads, places, landmarks, water bodies and institutions in the panchayat, the farmers marked the major cropping patter in the different wards along with other enterprises. Two seminars were also conducted on inter-cropping in coconut and value-addition in coconut. The programme came to an end with an interactive session between the farmers and agricultural experts.
