Gopalakrishna Dwivedi taking charge as Collector of East Godavari district at Kakinada on Monday. — Kakinada: Gopalakrishna Dwivedi took charge as the Collector of East Godavari district on Monday from M Subrahmanyam, who was appointed Managing Director of the State Cooperative Finance Corporation. This is the second stint for Mr. Dwivedi in East Godavari after he first worked as the joint collector five years ago and went on deputation to Uttaranchal. Speaking to reporters shortly after assuming charge, Mr. Dwivedi said he was happy to return to East Godavari and expressed confidence that he would be able to live up to people’s expectations with the cooperation of politicians, officials and all those who matter. He would strive to maintain the lead East Godavari has taken in different areas of development and achieve more laurels in future. The Collector also observed that there was a lot of development in the district and attributed it to the good administrative mechanism of the State Government. He said the southern States were better governed than those in North India and law and order was never a major problem in these parts of the country. Mr. Dwivedi was accustomed to functioning in this district with the then Collector Satish Chandra but now he has a new set of priorities and issues to settle, that require him to fast adjust to new situations, more so because Assembly elections are scheduled to be held early next year. Joint Cllector GSRKR Vijay Kumar, DRO M Mohan Raju and other officials and non-officials welcomed the new Cllector and bid farewell to his predecessor.
