Yanam Minister calls on Chief Minister State agrees to allocate 32 tmcft of water Kakinada: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has given formal clearance for laying a pipeline from Dowleswaram to Yanam, one of the three regions of the Union Territory of Pondicherry, to supply 3 tmcft of Godavari river water for drinking purpose. The Public Works Department of Yanam has estimated the project cost at Rs. 62 crore, according to the Tourism Minister of Yanam Malladi Krishna Rao. Speaking to reporters at Yanam on Sunday, Mr. Krishna Rao said he had met the Chief Minister, Minister for Ports and Infrastructure M Venkataramana and Social Welfare Minister P Subhas Chandra Bose in Hyderabad a few days ago and presented the case for laying pipeline to meet increasing requirement of Yanam, in addition to 19 tmcft already being supplied as per the understanding reached between Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry Governments in 1940s. The Andhra Pradesh Government agreed to allocate total 32 tmcft to Yanam including the 19 tmcft mentioned above. Canals networkThe Housing and Urban Development Corporation of Pondicherry has drawn up plans to develop a network of canals in collaboration with the agencies concerned of Andhra Pradesh to meet the balance requirement.
