The East Coast Road project is a long pending dream of Ramanathapuram district. The work has been completed up to Kadalur. But the National Highway authorities have not expedited the work from Ramanathapuram to Tuticorin through Sayalkudi. Once it is completed, trade and commerce will flourish in the southern districts. V. Rajendran,
Paramakudi ‘Lone’ waiverIt has been stated that the Rs.60,000-crore farm loan waiver scheme is to the implemented by pumping a massive sum into banking system through three years (2008-11). The assumption is this loan waiver will be a ‘lone’ waiver in the course of the next three years. But, considering the political pulls and pressures so unique to our style of democracy, it is highly unlikely that the powers that come will resist the temptation of granting further loan waivers to please and pamper the electorate, leading to added depletion of scarce finance and consequent stunted all-round development. Already, there are demands and promises to enlarge the Rs.60,000 crore waiver to the farm segment. The States are chipping in with their requests for compensation from the Centre to meet the loan waivers they have sanctioned for their part to keep the electoral flocks together. G.K.S.Kandasubramanian, Sivaganga Shift polesTwo twin-poles carrying high voltage electric wires are obstructing free flow of traffic on the Madurai-Rameswaram highway in front of the LIC building in Ramanathapuram. Since there is abundant space on the southern shoulder of the highway, I request the Electricity Department to shift the poles and install them away from road margin. Asmabagh Anvardeen Ramanathapuram Medical collegeThe State Government plans to set up an engineering college at Ramanathapuram. It is really a bonanza to this backward district. But the people of this district were all along waiting for a medical college. Ramanathapuram has been occupied by outside doctors who only evince interest in amassing wealth by fleecing poor patients. I request the Government to set up of a medical college here. G. Nagasamy,
Ramanathapuram
