Motion of thanks to Lieutenant Governor’s Address tomorrow

Assembly session is likely to come to a close on May 7


General discussion on budget for 2008-09 on April 3 and 4

Discussions on voting on demands for grants relating to 14 departments to begin on April 8.


PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Assembly will take up the motion of thanks to Lieutenant Governor’s Address for discussion on Wednesday. The session is likely to come to a close on May 7.

According to the schedule of the budget session decided by the Business Advisory Committee on March 25, the general discussion on the budget for 2008-2009 would be held on April 3 and 4.

After a gap of three days, discussions on voting on demands for grants relating to 14 departments would commence on April 8.

The demands were Legislative Assembly, Administrator, Council of Ministers, Elections, Revenue and Food, Sales Tax, Secretariat, Treasury and Accounts Administration, Police, Jails and Stationary and Printing. The debate would be continued on April 9 and 10.

A total of five demands — Statistics, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Industries and Electricity — would be taken up for discussion on April 11.

After a gap of five days, the debate would resume on April 17. It would go on till April 18.

There would be no sitting on April 19 and 20. Debate on demands such as Administration of Justice, Medical, Labour and Employment and Ports and Pilotage was slated for April 21 and 22.

The House would discuss on demands for grants for Transport, Education and Fisheries on April 23 and 24. Demands such as District Administration and Community Development would be taken up for discussions on April 25.

As there would be no sitting for the next two days, the debate on the two demands would resume on April 28.

The demand for grants for Social Welfare Department would be discussed on April 29 and 30. There would be no sitting on May 1.

Demand for grant for Retirement Benefits, Public Works, Information and Publicity, Cooperation, loans to government servants and Building Programme would be debated on May 2. After a gap of two days, the discussions on these demands would continue on May 5 and 6.

Appropriation Bill

The Appropriation Bill (II), 2008 would be introduced, considered and passed on May 6. As per the schedule, May 7 would be earmarked for Private Member’s Business.
